AVIGNON REGULAR SIGHTSEEING ROMAN AND MEDIEVAL HERITAGE

Combine wine and olive oil tastings in the Baux de Provence valley with the discovery of the Roman and Medieval heritage in Nîmes, Pont du Gard and Uzès

Admire Les Baux de Provence, medieval village labelled as "one of the most beautiful villages in France". This immense and superb stone fortress is without doubt one of the "must-sees" on the Provencal tourist trail !

Taste olive oil in a mill in Les Baux de Provence valley, one of the most beautiful landscapes of olive groves in Provence, where olive oil, cracked olives and black olives are entitled to the A.O.C. Label. The unusual feature of this A.O.C. olive oil is that it is made from a blend of several varieties of olives. It is the subtle blend of these varieties, a secret jealously guarded by each producer that gives the oils a whole palette of different flavours.

Wine-tasting in an estate at the foot of the Alpilles hill range.

The wines of Les Baux are defined by the unique, multi-faceted character of the soil, naturally protected and dried by the mistral wind. The Baux de Provence wines have been officially recognised since 1995 by a "Registered Designation of Origin" (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée). Nowadays, A.O.C Les Baux de Provence wines are unusual in that the grapes are grown using organic or biodynamic methods over 85% of their geographical area.

Lunch on your own.

Visit of NIMES : great city of the arts, proud of its prestigious Roman past, see the antique buildings : the amphitheatre (entrance included) and the « Maison Carrée » (or Square House, one of the best preserved temples in the Roman world), the Augustus’s gate,...

UZES, wonderful medieval town and the first Duchy of France, set in the garrigues countryside (mediterranean vegetation). A ducal seat, a bishopric and consular seat, Uzès has preserved its lay-out as a medieval stronghold, embellished in the 17th and 18 th centuries. See the Place aux Herbes (picturesque square), the episcopal palace, the ducal palace, the Fenestrelle tower (a unique bell-tower) and the Cathedral. Outside of Uzès is the catchment area of the Roman aqueduct (Pont du Gard) that brought spring water to Nîmes.

PONT DU GARD : dated from the first century and classified by UNESCO, it's the most amazing and well preserved part of the Roman acqueduct which supplied water to Nîmes.
