Our private driver guide will meet clients at Greenock Docks where we will start your short jorney to Edinburgh, We will continue to the nearby port of Leith to visit "Britannia." Home to the Queen and the Royal Family, and host to glittering State and official occasions, the Royal Yacht "Britannia" remains the most famous ship in the world. Launched in 1953, "Britannia" sailed over a million miles during the 43 years she spent as the sovereign ship of the Royal Navy.

Our tour begins in the visitor center where you see the resplendent Royal barge, used on so many occasions to carry the Queen ashore to start State visits. It gleams from stem to stern, with polished woodwork and shining fittings. There is an interesting collection of photographs of the Royal Family and their guests onboard the ship over the years. You will see the general displays, plus mock-up of crew quarters and equipment from the Bridge. Collecting an audio hand set, you now walk across the quay to board the ship for the self-guided tour around the various decks, looking into the Admiral's cabin, the Queen's and the Duke of Edinburgh's cabins and offices, the State dining room, Drawing Room, Reception Room, and the outside decks. Returning to the exhibition center, you can browse in the gift shop before returning to the coach.

Your panoramic sightseeing itinerary travels through the Old Town, descending eastwards along the ridge from the castle. This is the historical area known as The Royal Mile and you drive along Castle Hill, Lawnmarket, High Street, and Canongate, passing delightful multi-storied houses and quaint side streets. Pass St. Gile's Cathedral, the finest of the city's churches, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, with its famous Crown spire. It is in the area of Old Town that you will get a flavor of what 16th and 17th century Edinburgh were like, a cramped, impossibly crowded area of tall buildings on either side of the mile of road between the Castle and Holyrood.

At one end of the Royal Mile, you will see splendid and regal Holyrood Palace, the official residence of the Queen when she pays official visits to Scotland. Your coach then drives to Arthur's Seat. From this vantage point, you will have a marvelous view of Edinburgh Castle standing proudly on its soaring rock. This notable landmark, built in the 12th century, dominates Old Town and the entire city. You will then have lunch on your own and at your own expense, choosing from one of the many cafes and restaurants that can be found in the city center. There is time to be tempted by the glittering array of big stores along Princes Street, or the smaller shops along The Royal Mile before commencing the return drive to Greenock.
