Chartres Cathedral (5 hours)
Our English speaking driver will meet clients in the lobby of their Paris hotel at 09.00AM. We will drive 50 miles west of Paris to visit Chartres. This old town along the river has a striking 12th century cathedral. It has been a famous pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages, after being an active local Druid and Gallo-Roman temple. Chartres Cathedral is famous for its many stained-glass windows - with the "blue of Chartres", and its crypt from ancient times.
The city suffered heavy damage by bombing in the course of World War II, but the Cathedral of Chartres was spared by an American Army officer who challenged the order to destroy it. |
