We shall drive you up the romantic Viale dei Colli to Piazzale Michelangelo: there we stop to admire the breathtaking view of the city, spread out beneath us - one of the most beautiful in the world.
The tour continues by coach down into the centre of the oldest part of the town. One then gets out, proceeding on a guided visit on foot of the Santa Maria del Fiore or Duomo complex: the Baptistery with its gilded bronze doors including the famous Doors of Paradise and a walk around the exterior of the Cathedral with the magnificent Brunelleschi Dome and Giotto’s Belfry with its fascinating marble statues and reliefs.
A short walk through the historical streets of the heart of Florence takes one past stately, rusticated stone Palazzo Medici Riccardi, where young Michelangelo lived as a guest of Lorenzo the Magnificent, to the renowned Gallery of the Accademia* where one can admire the famous David by Michelangelo and other works by the great artist.
The guided tour ends inside the museum, enabling one to explore a little further on ones own.
*The Gallery of the Accademia is closed on Mondays: it will be replaced by a visit to the Bargello National Museum of Sculpture or the Medici Chapels.
