Our private English speaking driver guide will meet clients at
their hotel at 09.00AM This tour takes you to one of the best preserved 17th century warships in the world. Although the ship was considered an enormous failure back in the days when she was built, her story has now transformed into a great success. How else could you describe a battleship that sinks after only fifteen minutes and 400 years later attracts more than a million visitors each year? The tour tries to answer questions such as who was responsible for this military disaster and why did they find her only fifty years ago?
Crew, arming and salvage are topics on the journey through the lifetime of this spectacular war vessel. Even curiosities such as the number of anchors found on the ship and her gaudy colouring are defined. See the only three cannons left on the wreck when she was salvaged in the 20th century and find out how the other guns had been brought to daylight with early 18th century techniques.
On the second stop on this tour, you walk the little streets of the Stockholm Old Town. This is where the Stockholm saga started, 900 years ago, as the islands in the area emerged from the water. See the main square, Stortorget, surrounded by 17th century buildings. Have a look at the Swedish Academy where the Nobel Prize winner in literature is announced every year. On the ground floor you find the Nobel museum where pictures of all laureates go around on a clothes line.
See the Cathedral where the present king and queen were wed, and get a view of the royal palace where they have their offices today.
