Power and religion - once combined, now separated! Officially founded in 1252 the Old Town has a strong medieval heritage still visible. The island of the Old Town is where the history of Stockholm started. You feel the centuries with every step you take: in the alleys winding up to the main square, outside the cathedral when the church bells ring or in front of the heavy baroque palace. These three sites were once upon a time the most important places in the Old Town. The palace was the executive power, the church the spiritual power and the main square hosted everyday life.

Inside the Cathedral you see where the wedding of the present royal couple took place in 1976. The Cathedral is considered Stockholm's most ancient building and holds one of the greatest wooden sculptures in Scandinavia, portraying Saint George and the dragon. The Old Town is an intriguing place where trade, betrayal and even murders took place. The tour gives you full insight into the long lasting German influence and the many attacks of the Danes during the Middle Ages. Due to the Swedish neutrality nothing has been destroyed here in the last 400 years. It is yours to explore. The scenic drive through Stockholm on the way back to the hotel shows us the ciy's fine points of interest.
