Your private English speaking driver guide will meet you at your Naples hotel at 09.00AM Pompei is what remains of an old city founded on 56 B.C. by Romans. Pompei was built by the sea at the bottom of the Lattari mountains, a strategic position for those times. The locals were unaware of having a boiling volcano at their back, and one night in 79 A.D the Vesuvius Volcano erupted destroying Pompei and nearby Ercolano. The lava covered the whole area burying Pompei with its inhabitants. Only after 1700 years, Pompei and Ercolano were brought to light again, and now it is the most fascinating open air museum in the world.
